Daisho blades famous swordsmiths:

Katana blade: Bishū Osafune Tadamitsu 備州長船忠光

Wakizashi blade: Niō Kiyotsuna 二王 - 清綱

Wakizashi with a Buddhist Horimono engraved on each blade side and Sayagaki (on Shirasaya)

Surely these two blades were chosen to form Daisho because they coincide in the curvature (Sori) and are from the same period, both are from well-known forgers (swordsmiths). Its lengths are also very balanced to form the Daisho set, matching the most common measurements in its very ancient period forming a unique set with the rare and high quality Koshirae set Meiji style.

Katana blade condition:

The blade edge are perfect since they were sharpened with the latest Japanese polishing, the traditional razor cut.
The polishing is also perfect and the blade do not have any defects worth mentioning.

Wakizashi blade condition:

Surely this blade was polished at the same time as the Katana, in any case it is very well preserved.
The beginning of the Horimono what depicting a Buddhist sword is partially erased due to polishing over near six hundred years, something common in such ancient blades.

The swordsmith's signature (Niō Kiyotsuna 二王 - 清綱) is perfectly identified by the NBTHK experts so there is no doubt accordingly the forging (initial Muromachi) period.

This very antique blade is dating but due to the friction over the centuries the side of the Nakago on which the date is engraved the characters cannot be read well... some are practically illegible and the few barely visible lines must be deducted... I have shuffled several combinations without a result of the year, but something of the month and day, etc.

Ten-zu yaha tsuki chi na hi
天国ハ月十五日   or    天国き日ハ月十五日     十五日  15th day  天  heaven 風 wind
Tengoku ha tsuki jū go-nichi   or   15th day of heaven… year 1436 ¿...? I do not sure

Extremely rare very high ranking Shippo (七宝) "Seven Treasures" Kodogu Daisho Koshirae set Meiji style:

Shippo (七宝) Kodogu:

Material: Quality bronze and cooper alloy with precise glazed polychrome enamel work. Surely one of the last old Japanese original works in this antique traditional technique

In the Japanese Edo period and maybe previous, fine works of Kodogu (Fuchi/Kashira, Menuki, Tsuba, Kougai and Kozuka) were made with multi-colored enamel glazes also know in other languages as Cloisonne this technique is known in Japan as Shippo (七宝) = "Seven Treasures", this name is taken from the Buddhist Sutra describing the beauty of seven kinds of treasure. Of which hardly any examples are preserved today.

Kodogu maked with Shippo technique reached a rare perfection in the Meiji period, previous than the Japanese master handicraftsmans stopped making Kodogu pieces with this technique any near afterward time.

Common features of both Koshirae:

Tsuka:

Wood: Honoki (Hinoki 檜 Japanese Cypress)
Fuchi/Kashira and Menuki couple: high grade Shippo (七宝)
Same: Genuine Ray Skin
Ito: Blue natural Silk

Tsuba set:

Daisho Maru Gata Shippo (七宝) Tsuba couple
A rare and very fine multi-colored enamel work
"Flowers with leaves and butterflies"

Saya:

Wood: Honoki (Hinoki 檜 Japanese Cypress)
Lacquered: Black traditional Urushi with pure Gold sheets
Sageo: Dark Blue Silk

Wakizashi Koshirae has a Kogatana with Kozuka:

Kogatana 小型な: Tamahagane 玉鋼 forged steel. Signed blade
Kozuka 小柄: Shippo (七宝) fine "Flowers" work - Estimated Age: Edo period 江戸時代 also known as the Tokugawa period 徳川時代

The Tsunagi couple are in the short form sufficient to adjust the Koshirae for display if the blade is stored in its Shirasaya as is customary and traditional.

Koshirae set condition: Very good general condition, the Fuchi of the Wakizashi shows signs of old repair with slight lack of enamel at one end only.

They did not originally have the antique fabric Bukuro (Bag), I will shipping them with two modern ones of the same floral design.

The Katanakake (wooden stand) is not included with this Daisho sale.
